We are reprinting this information from the City of Sioux
Falls: By Sioux Falls Health Department Policy, this
ordinance is not intended to restrict the periodic use of
baby-sitters caring for the children of one family in Sioux
Falls. It is intended to regulate homes in Sioux Falls which
are regularly caring for children from multiple families. Child care givers in Sioux Falls planning
to start a new business will need to comply with the
requirements before they begin. As part of the $15.00 application fee, day
care providers will be provided educational information and
training opportunities to meet the training requirements and
a Tuberculosis test at the Sioux River Valley Community
Health Center. If you have more than six children in your
child care home in Sioux Falls, there may be conditional use
permit zoning requirements. For more information, contact
the Sioux Falls Planning Office at 367-8888. Any home in Sioux Falls where
care is being given for 12 or fewer children for any form of
compensation is required to register with the Sioux Falls
Health Department. Day cares with more than 12 children
are regulated by the State of South Dakota Department of
Social Services. Parents should be looking for evidence of
registration which is a certificate that should be in a
location readily visible to parents utilizing the home for
day care. Parents with concerns regarding their
home day care may call and register a concern with the
Sioux Falls Health Department at 367- 8760. Registration requires the provider to
demonstrate that they have tested negative for tuberculosis,
and that they have completed a basic child care course and
an infant toddler first aid/CPR certification, and that no
adult regularly in the home has their name on the Central
Registry for Abuse & Neglect or is required to register as a
sex offender. If you would like to receive a
registration packet, contact: Sioux Falls Health Department
